Essential advice for mandatory insurance:  We require that you be insured for medical coverage, even though robbery and accident insurance is less useful.

For European Citizens: request a EU health insurance card (EHIC) from your local medical institution. It is valid across Europe. More information about what is covered with EHIC in Estonia can be found here.  See Healthcare Abroad > Medical Treatment Abroad > Estonia.

For travellers with Schengen visa, please follow the regular insurance requirements on your visa application.  If you need to buy or prolong your insurance directly in Estonia, international students most often choose one of the following insurance companies meeting the requirements:

Ergo Insurance
AS Inges Kindlustus

NOTE:  The insured medical care is not free – the expenses (visit, hospital charges, etc.) must be paid for according to the tariffs set in Estonia. For receiving the compensation, if applicable, an application must be submitted to respective national contact point in your home country.
