Paid Internships – Madrid
ESL and EFL

Description: We believe that one year of experience abroad is worth 5 years of experience in any other type of activity. These posts are given out at a centrally-located, up-market school located in the heart of Madrid. This is the second largest language training company in Spain with offices in Madrid and Barcelona and satellite operations nationwide.
The company provides language training to over 10,000 adult learners who study English (and other languages) for their jobs. There are more than 300 teachers on staff. Based on your qualifications and an interview you will be guaranteed a spot even if you haven't experience in the field of your choice.
The International Communications internship
Internship Purpose: To prepare students for working in an international environment either in the language training field or in the field of their area of study: General Education, Business Administration, International Relations, Marketing, Economics, Political Science...
Through working in a rapidly expanding international company, we aim to provide interns with valuable experience in areas related to international working environments:
- International project management
- International team coordination
- Intercultural differences and the work environment
- Language training experience (specialized in adult language education)
- Pedagogical material & project development
Training Program Diploma. Upon completion of the internship, the intern receives:
- Certificate of international project participation for online business English program.
- Certificate of global English.
- I Speak U Speak (ISUS) certification.
- Nº of training hours received in ESL training specialised in adult education (if applicable).
- Nº of ESL training hours given.
For those who come from English as a Second Language backgrounds, we not only provide specialized training in adult ESL education, we also certify up to 600 hours of evaluated classroom experience. This exceeds most classroom observation requirements by 4 year universities and it also exceeds the requirements established by the TEFL certificate emitted by the British Council.
Fees: Participation Fee: 1680 Euros [payable upon confirmation of placement]. 60 euro non-refundable deposit (to be deducted from your final payment).
Cost Includes:
- Three months full coverage medical insurance as well as accident and third party coverage at place of work for your entire semester or academic year stay.
- Intensive Spanish course at our downtown, fully-equipped language school for 4 hours/day, 5 days a week for 1 week, with cultural program included.
- EFL Certificate Training Course (if applicable).
- Intern placement.
- Coaching: Senior Tutors provide pedagogical support and guidance for interns through tasks in the international project for Recruitment, Marketing, Product Development, Business.
- Lodging search for shared student accommodation or with Spaniards.
- Limited bureaucracy.
- Testing, diploma, certificates, materials, texts and limited free Internet access while at the school.
- Free rental of a Spanish cell phone.
- Lunch at a typical Spanish restaurant.
- Screening of all companies.
- Arrival airport transfer.
- Local phone, fax and e-mail data will be provided in case of need.
- Orientation packet: includes tourist info, city information, transportation and communication details -- including a map and explanation of the Metro in Madrid, etc.

The Intensive Spanish Program consists of:

- 20 hours of Spanish classes per week (9.30am-1.30pm Monday to Friday). There is a maximum of 8 students in each class, average 5. All teachers are native Spanish speakers, educated to at least degree level and with specific teaching qualifications.
- 10 hours per week of our Cultural and Social Activities Program (usually daily from 14:30 to 16:30), which is aimed at improving your knowledge of Madrid itself (through our walking tours of the city and visits to world-famous art museums) and also the culture and customs of Spain. This program also involves ‘Cañas y Tapas’ evenings, where you can enjoy food and drink typical of Spain, whilst making friends with other students from the school.

Student Visas
Interns who stay longer than 3 months (90 days) need to obtain a Student Visa. BEST will provide you with the documentation to apply at the Spanish embassy closest to your place of residence.
Stipends:
- A stipend of up to 1100 euros monthly is given based on the rate of 13 euros/hour gross, with a minimum of 500 euros for part time.
Qualifications / Skills Needed:
- University student or graduate in area of interest.
- Minimum of 20 years of age.
- Professional or academic backgrounds: i.e. Business Administration, Intenational Relations, Marketing, Political Science, etc. Preference given for Education and ESL (English as a Second Language).
- Minimum lower-intermediate Spanish.
- Availability between September and June for a semester or the academic year.
- EFL teaching participants must have native speaking skills in English.
Intern Types: English as a Second Language, English as a Foreign Language, Adult and Business English, General Education, Business Administration, International Relations, Marketing, Economics, Political Science or similar
Calendar and Participation Options:
- Interns can decide to participate for an entire academic year or for 1 semester.
- Full academic year: September 21st to June 30th. Christmas holiday: December 18th to January 4th.
- Fall semester: September 21st to December 18th.
- Winter & Spring semesters: January 4th to June 30th. These semesters must be done together.
- Easter break is from the 26th of March to the 5th of April.
* Summer semester not available.
Renewals are free with the exception of insurance. Insurance is mandatory.
- Full Time option:
Requires a full time commitment, 20 hours a week + attendance of training sessions.
- Part Time option:
Minimum commitment to 10 hours a week + attendance of training sessions. Interns would need to be available during the time slots of 8:00-10:00, and/or mid-day, 14:00 to 16:00.

Application Time: The application process takes a minimum of 2 months. We will sometimes accommodate rush placement for a fee of 100 euros.
Commencement dates: September and January.
Tax and Health Care
Tax: Tax returns are filed in Spain, and are subject to a 2 % tax withholding. Filing a tax return in the United States is not obligatory.
Health Insurance: Student Visas require students to possess private health care insurance. This health insurance can be from the United States. This program includes the first three months of health insurance. The cost of extending the insurance once in Spain is 35 euros/month.
Future Job Opportunities... Beyond the internship
A brief list of job opportunities are as follows.
- Online ESL Tutors: Specialised in distance and virtual learning. Interns can return to their home countries and continue to work for us as online tutors.
- In Company Consultants: working in the facilities of one client managing a team of ESL teachers and coordinating the logistics and administration of the training program for that client.
- Coordinators: working as logistics specialists on the assignment of teachers to programs and recruitment of new teaching staff.
- Pedagogical developers: working on our Pedagogical Development Team to create the pedagogical materials used for specialized programs.
